Custom Made Kitchen Curtains and Window Treatments for the Home
Curtains and window treatments – Have you ever been at a friend’s house and envied something of theirs? This happened to me one day, and it was my friend’s kitchen curtains that I fell in love with.
I immediately asked her where she got them and she told me that she had an aunt who made them for her. They went to the fabric store, found some fabric that she loved, and she had a picture from a magazine of the style that she wanted.
I am a DIY kind of girl so I thought, well I can do that! I even found a sewing pattern to follow so that it would be easy-peasy. Just follow the steps, right? Well off I went to the fabric store, and as soon as I walked in I was overwhelmed. Now, I love looking at home decorating things, so I was not overwhelmed and wanted to run out of the store. No, I wanted to buy everything in the store! It was very difficult but after taking several cutting samples home and thinking it over, I had two co-coordinating fabrics that I wanted to use.
I have 3 different window sizes in my kitchen, so I had to figure out how to make that work – use the same pattern for all three sizes. Then I had to calculate how much of each fabric I was going to need. This was even more complicated because the pattern called for it to be cut on the bias. In the end I took everything I had – the pattern, the face fabric, interlining, and the lining to my friend’s aunt’s house and payed her to make the custom curtains for my kitchen.
I had already invested over $200 in just the fabric alone, and I didn’t want to mess them up. By the time it was all done, I spent over $100 per window for custom window treatments. Honestly, the way they turned out … it was worth it. If you figure up how much you would spend to replace barstools, it would cost the same, but not bring as much interior design as these kitchen curtains do.
