There are some things that you need to know in regards to ordering and purchasing your new futon cover that may not come to mind. Well, now you don’t have to rely on a guess, you can accurately and confidently order a new cover for your futon online if you wish. But, before you do, make sure that you consider the overall dimensions or size of your mattress. To be safe, make sure that you measure for not only the width and length, but also the thickness. These three numbers together will give you a better understanding of the sizes you need to look for when browsing online.

While most retailers will offer all the mattress thicknesses commonly used, you may find that a particular specialty futon mattress may not be a readily available stocked item and may need to be special ordered – possibly at an additional price.
Below, are listed the common measurements for the length and width of the standard bed sizes. As you can see, the thickness numbers are not listed. This is because they can range from 4” up to 10-12” in today’s futon numbers.

Mattress Measurements:
Twin: 39” x 75”
Full: 54” x 75”
Queen: 60” x 80”

The futon cover dimensions are such that you should address the measurements of your mattress carefully. Because of the more rounded corner nature of the futon – like a waterbed in this regard – it may be harder to get that accuracy. However, the futon manufacturers realize this and make their covers to match. Also, keep in mind that drying of your cover may cause it to shrink, so remove it before it is completely dry to maintain the size you need to fully cover your mattress.

If you have been browsing online and are having a difficult time finding the right cover you want, then you may be searching in the wrong places. Many of the larger home stores sell some versions of covers, though these are typically more ‘generic’ in style, pattern or color.
