Have you ever shopped for a lampshade?  There are so many to choose from that it can get somewhat confusing.  However, depending on your home decor, the right lampshade can make a real difference.

Some you can pick up for next to nothing, whereas others (particularly antique models) can cost a fortune. Or if you happen to have a contemporary decor in your home, you can really enhance a room with an unusual lamp shade. So why settle for the boring kind?

People often like to play it safe with lamps and lampshades. But why? We challenge you to hold a piece of colored fabric, just once, to a lampshade and see the difference that a little bit of color can make to the light shining out.

Going through a furniture showroom can help you see the difference an unusual lampshade can make when placed with different styles of furniture. Often, these furniture stores use the assistance of professional decorators and “stagers”, who’ job is to make the design of the room look great.  If you are lucky when you are touring one of these furniture showrooms, you might be able to talk to the decorator on site. They will be able to show you the difference a lampshade can make and also how it can blend in with or exaggerate the personality of any type of furniture.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a lampshade either.  There are of course expensive designer or antique models out there, but you can actually recycle your old one. The website Recycle Delight gives some great instructions on how to do this. Just glue on some colored fabric in a patchwork style, and hey presto, you’ve got your own unique, custom-made designer lampshade.

The options are endless and you will have a lot of fun investigating your options, as well as enjoying your masterpiece lampshade when it is completed.
