The strategies of modern kitchen design on a tight budget
Modern kitchen design on a budget- Making changes to your kitchen can be a costly business, if you are intending to add new countertops or to rip out and replace all of your kitchen cabinets.
However, there are smaller changes that can make a difference both in look and practicality but will cost you far less money. So how do you redesign your kitchen on a lower budget?
First of all, let’s think what it is that you want to change. Is it how the kitchen looks, or is it the storage space? Perhaps you don’t have enough room to put all your kitchen appliances and dishes. Obviously, you can deal with both of these issues in different ways:
If it is the look of the kitchen, rather than doing a majorly expensive overhaul why don’t you simply apply some paint? Even the most stained cupboard doors will look good with a coat of fresh paint. At the same time, fix up broken hinges and add some new door handles. You might also want to exchange some of the doors with glass panels, which will add a new look and also make your kitchen a bit more user friendly.
If your kitchen tiles are looking a bit miserable these days, you can buy some nice adhesive waterproof stickers that are easily applied and will make the tiles look like new – without having to touch even an ounce of messy silicone!
Other ways to brighten up a dull kitchen include adding various kitchen accessories, such as scented candles or homemade kitchen decorations. For example, one low-budget accessory is a cute display of colored glass jars. Clean out any glass colored spice jars after use and then create a nice display on a shelf. Another idea is to make a country-style display of pretty china plates hung on nails, in the Victorian spirit.
If you are looking for kitchen storage ideas, one good idea could be to reorganize. Be ruthless and throw out everything that you really don’t need – including the wedding gifts that you are not interested in using, and the appliances that you are going to fix one day but never do. Then, try to put everything back in the most compact way that you can.
If you still need more storage space even after this, consider building upwards. High ceilings can mean an extra tier of cabinets. You can also add shelves if you have enough wall space. This is an inexpensive and user friendly way of adding storage space. In fact, vertical living can be a great way to maximize square footage.
Another great way to add a little extra space is to create your own portable kitchen island in the form of a trolley. The lower shelf of the trolley can be used for storing certain items, and its top shelf can be used for food preparation. This is ideal when you have many guests, as you can use it to transport items from the kitchen to the dining room or as extra preparation space when you are stuck.
Redesigning your kitchen does not have to cost the earth. All you need is a little creativity, and you can do it fairly well on a low budget. For other great home improvement ideas, be sure to visit our Rival crock pot home page and see how others are learning to live the slow-cookin’ lifestyle…
