Retro Bread Bins: The Jetsons Décor in Your Kitchen

Think back to the days of growing up as a child, waking up on Saturday morning as you stumble into the kitchen. You notice mom and dad are making eggs, grilling sausage, flipping pancakes, and brewing coffee. You also take notice of the aroma of the kitchen as it fills the house. Great memories.

Back in the early 1900s through the 1960s the bread bin was a staple of the American kitchen. During this time there were many different styles of bread bins. Some have been short-lived, others have stood the test of time. But there is one bread bin that has found its way into many peoples’ homes recently, and that is the retro red bread bin.

The Buick Red Retro Bread Bin is unique in that it has legs to support the bread bin. Keep in mind that most bread bins are flat and lay flat on a counter-top, but this bread bin has small legs and a spherical storage area which can keep up to three loaves of medium-sized bread. Back in the 1950s when this bread bin made its first appearance, it didn’t last long because the functionality of the bin was inferior to most of what was on the market at that time. It certainly had a look that would fit in with the Jetsons’ décor, as opposed to your kitchen. So, it didn’t last.

But recently the retro bread bin was introduced to the market and it has been a popular item. This bin is very different from many others on the market today which may explain why its popularity continues to grow. It’s not the most functional or practical bread bin on the market, but it is quite a charming container. Whether or not it looks good on your kitchen counter-top, I’ll leave it you to decide.

Retro bread bins will certainly add a touch of nostalgia to any kitchen, as would the addition of any kitchen bins. For more great decorating ideas that’ll help you live the slow-cookin’ lifestyle, visit our crock pot home-page and see all we have to offer…
