Cheap swimming pool chemicals, such as chlorine and bromine, are necessary to maintain a clear, sanitized pool. Sanitization and filtration are both critical components in maintaining your pool. Therefore, a pool filter and the right pool chemicals are necessary items for keeping pool water sparkling and safe for use.

The Two Primary Pool Disinfectants

The two main disinfectants used in the pool are chlorine and bromine. While bromine needs to be dispersed by a chemical feeder, chlorine does not. Bromine, too, works better in warmer temperatures; therefore, it is often preferred as a pool chemical in hot tubs and spas. Chlorine has a stronger smell than bromine and can often cause allergic reactions in people who are sensitive to the substance.

On the whole, chlorine is used more than bromine as it’s not as expensive. If you are someone who is sensitive to chlorine or do not like its smell, then you may be happier using bromine in your pool. However, be aware that bromine is chlorine-based, so if you’re allergic to chlorine, it would still not be suggested you use it instead. You can obtain swimming pool chemicals on the Internet that are helpful to those with allergies to chlorine. However, most of these sanitizers do not have the capacity to oxidize or eliminate the organic contaminants in the same way that chlorine can. If you have some sensitivity to chlorine then, it’s recommended that you add a mineral purifier to the water in your pool.
